Oreck Magnesium Joins the Affordable Vacuum Line-up

The new Oreck Magnesium vacuum is very light. The Magnesium comes almost completely assembled; you just have to attach the handle, which doesn’t require tools and takes about ten seconds. The machine feels solid and the new blue color is electric! Because of the powerful brush roller; the vacuum propels itself. The HEPA bag ensures that the dirt and dust that gets vacuumed up doesn’t get released back into the air. The Magnesium has an auto shut-off for when you accidentally suck up a sock or shoelace.

The Magnesium is excellent at cleaning; even on the toughest challenge of all: dog hair. There is no need to change settings when going from hardwood to carpet. When laid flat, the Magnesium can slide completely underneath beds for easy cleaning. And, the Magnesium works very well on the new super dense soft carpets.

What is dust?

In short, dust is composed of all the decomposing disgusting things you can imagine and more. Dust is composed of dead skin cells, hair, animal fur, chemicals, metals, animal dander, cigarette ash, pollution, dried feces from various sources and the rotting corpses of dust mites and other bugs. Dust is also composed of fabric fibers, lint, concrete, plaster, ashes, soot, soil, fertilizer, plants and pollen. Additionally dust may include particles of cheese doodles, corn chips, potato chips and cookie crumbs. The more food crumbs in your house, the more insects the crumbs attract, which creates more decomposing bug dust. Dust may also contain lead, arsenic, bug killer, weed killer, mold and other chemicals.

Many people suffer from allergies to house dust, animal dander or pollen. Dust mites also cause an allergic reaction in many people. Dust mites are not generally visible, except with a microscope; they eat dead skin cells and live in bedding, carpets and soft furnishings (sofa and chairs). After a year of use any piece of soft furniture has dust mites.

Grossed out? Me too! So what can we do about dust, dust mites and dust bunnies?

House dust can become airborne easily. Care is required when removing dust to avoid releasing it back into your home. Be sure to dust the ceilings and especially the corners of your rooms. Look out for hidden dust collectors like the tops of curtains, venetian blinds and knick knacks. Be sure to vacuum under and behind furniture. Once or twice a year empty cabinets and drawers and clean them thoroughly. There are special new duster products that trap and hold the dust, use them. They are worth the extra cost.  If you are using a bagless vacuum, STOP! Bagless vacuums do not trap the dust. When you vacuum with a bagless vacuum, the dust redeposits on your furniture and floors. Use a vacuum that has a certified HEPA filter to trap up to 99.97% of dust.

No one needs much convincing about the wisdom of getting rid of decomposing bugs and dead skin cells, and the good news is that about 90% of it can be removed simply by cleaning floor dust with a good quality vacuum.

It goes without saying that your home will never be entirely dust-free, but there are ways to reduce the dust and allergens in your environment.  Your health depends on it.

Hovercraft Instructions

1. Take your sheet of plywood and cut it so it is a 4 ft. diameter disk.

2. Drill a hole the size of the hose or outlet of your air source (vacuum exhaust, leaf blower)

3. Cover one side of the plywood with plastic sheeting (use a 10 mil. Plastic drop cloth or shower curtain) allowing the edge of the plastic to overlap onto the other side of the board.

4. Place your plastic lid in the center of the disk over the plastic sheeting and screw or bolt it into the plywood. Staple the plastic edges to the other side of the disk.

5. Seal the edges and staples with duct tape. Make sure no air can escape through the tape.

6. Carefully cut six 2 inch evenly spaced circles 2 inches away from the center of the disk into the plastic sheeting

7. Place the air source over the hole in disk so it blows air through the hole. You can duct tape it in place.

8. Be sure to place the hovercraft on a very smooth surface for best results

9. You can now ride your new hovercraft. It will hold between 160 and 200 pounds.

10. Attach a piece of strong nylon string to the front of your hovercraft to tether it or so that someone can steer you.

11. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work with no one in it. Body weight makes it work better

12. Have fun!

Choosing the best vacuum for your situation

First I want to know what kind of floor surface you have. If you have hardwood or tile floors, oriental carpets, wool or shag carpeting, etc.  I want to be able to direct you to the best vacuum to meet your needs.

Another issue is strength, a heavy vacuum like a Kirby or other larger upright might do a great job, but if it’s a challenge to get it out of the closet and up and down stairs you won’t use it. Many cleaning services prefer backpack vacuums. Personal preference matters; some people like uprights and some like canister vacuums and some insist on a central vacuum.

I also want to know what kind of vacuum you have now. Why did you choose your present vacuum? What do you like about it and what would you like to improve?

Sometimes the solution isn’t a new vacuum. Sometimes all you need is a turbo vacuum head or specialized cleaning tools. Vacuums perform better if they are cleaned and serviced occasionally. Maybe your vacuum is clogged with dirt, dust and allergens and all it needs is a good cleaning and servicing.

There are some very reasonably priced vacuums that provide good cleaning results and some high-priced vacuums that clean even the deepest dirt and allergens out of the carpet.  Working within your budget is important. More important is finding a vacuum that cleans to your satisfaction in your price range.

No matter what your preference is, we can help you to find the right vacuum to fit your needs.

Robot Vacuums

Robot vacuums are fun!  They clean up surface dirt and lint and then go back to their charging station. I can certainly understand why people buy them.

Robot vacuums do not replace the need for a traditional  vacuum cleaner. While many robot vacuum manufacturers advertise that their robots will free you from the burden of vacuuming,  this is not the case. Robotic vacuums do not clean as well as a good quality traditional vacuum air jordan 9. They do a great job of picking up surface dust and lint, but for deep cleaning you need a vacuum with a bigger motor, brush roller and cleaning tools. If you want the ease and convenience of having your vacuum clean up while you are at work, by all means get a robot, but be sure to vacuum with a traditional vacuum cleaner once a week, to get out the deep down dirt.

Why Buy from a Vacuum Professional Instead of a Big Box Store?

When you come into my store, I will ask a series of questions designed to evaluate your vacuum needs and preferences. There is no one vacuum that meets everybody’s needs.  That is why I carry a selection of vacuums in a wide price range. Some people are fanatical cleaners and others vacuum once a month, if it needs it. Some houses have wool or oriental rugs, some have hardwood floors and a few have shag rugs.  Some people have dogs, cats and children. Some people live alone and always take off their shoes before entering the house. Some people want the best vacuum money can buy and some people want the best vacuum in their price range.

When you shop for a vacuum at a big box or department store, you are depending on the vacuum manufacturer’s advertising to make your selection. The vacuum with the best advertising wins.  I can tell you from experience that some of the best advertisements are for really poor quality vacuums mens new balance 993.  You won’t know that until it is too late. Also, it is well known that “special” products are manufactured for the big box store. These are products that are not available at other stores. The special thing about these products is that they substituted lesser quality components so they could meet the price the big box store was willing to pay for the merchandise.  The products look the same to the buyer, but the quality level is significantly different.

Repair – Big box stores don’t repair vacuums. They only sell them. They learn talking points in order to point you toward the more expensive and better advertised vacuums, but they don’t really know vacuums. I repair vacuums everyday. I know what makes one vacuum better than another. I know which vacuums are better for hardwood, carpet or linoleum. I know which vacuums need more frequent repair. I know which vacuums are worth repairing and which vacuums are essentially disposable. I will tell you when replacing your vacuum will be more cost effective than repairing your vacuum.

Life expectancy of a vacuum – A good quality vacuum should last for many years. I have one customer with a fifty year old vacuum that still cleans better than many newer vacuums. It needed servicing and he asked if it was time to replace the vacuum nike hyperdunk. I could honestly answer that his vacuum still had a few more good years of service to give. All it needed was a good cleaning and a fresh brush roll.  Most vacuums don’t last fifty years. But, I sell many vacuums that have a nice long warrantee. I register your purchase with the manufacturer so you don’t have to keep track of the receipt in order to use the warrantee.

Keeping Your Vacuum Clean During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for Affordable Vacuum.  Every year customers bring in their vacuums clogged with pine needles and tinsel. It’s not a problem for me to clean out the clog, but owners of a natural tree can save themselves some repair costs by changing the vacuum bag more frequently, and taking care to not vacuum too many needles at one time.

Tree decorations are also a frequent cause of clogs.  Ornament hooks can get knocked off, and are easy to miss when you pick up before you vacuum.  They can immobilize your beater bar, which greatly reduces your vacuum’s ability to remove dust particles from the floor air jordan 12 sale. Another thing to watch out for is the tinsel that doesn’t always stay on the tree where you put it. It’s just doesn’t feel like the holidays until I’ve removed a dozen or so tinsel laden clogs.

A final piece of advice for keeping your vacuum running smooth for the season is to wrap your tree in a big plastic bag before taking it out of the house.  This will cut back on the amount of pine needles that need to be cleaned, and decrease the likelihood of damage to your vacuum.

Tell me a little about Simplicity. Why have you chosen to sell them at Affordable Vacuum?

Simplicity vacuums last. It’s not uncommon to hear owners talk about their 15 year old Simplicity vacuum that still works great. Simplicity vacuums don’t have a lot of the bells and whistles that have become common to every vacuum at the big box store, but in 10 years you will consider it one of your wisest purchases. Another thing that is important to me is that many Simplicity vacuums are manufactured right here in the United States.

Simplicity focuses on one thing — building exceptional vacuums. And, as their name implies, they don’t believe that adding gadgets and gizmos is the way to accomplish this goal. Instead, engineers and structural designers scrutinize every detail of Simplicity vacuums to ensure each element is the best it can be.

Your vacuum should be part of your home maintenance solutions, not part of the problem. Whether it’s the day you purchase your Simplicity or years later, you can count on superior performance every time you use your vacuum new balance 575. Simplicity stands behind each of its vacuums with some of the best comprehensive warranties in the industry. Maintaining a beautiful home just got easier.

Service Schedule

Your vacuum should be serviced every 12 to 18 months.

As dirt, dust and lint build up in your vacuum cleaner; bearings slow down the brush roll causing excessive wear on the vacuum motor. Overheating can drastically shorten the life of a vacuum motor or even require total replacement of the entire vacuum. Over a period of time some brushes become soft, lose effectiveness and need to be replaced. A worn out brush may look fine, but if a worn brush is not replaced, it will simply turn, never touching the carpet. This cuts your cleaning efficiency by as much as 50 percent.

The overall appearance of your carpet depends on a good vacuum cleaner. If your vacuum cleaner has enough air flow and suction to lift the carpet nap to the brushes, the vacuum will brush the nap and help it to stand up properly. The result will be newer looking and easier to clean carpeting. This will help to reduce dirt and allergens in your home.

If your vacuum is performing poorly, the carpet nap will remain matted and packed down from foot traffic. Sand and grit cannot be pulled from flattened carpet fibers. Dark colored traffic trails begin to appear cheap real shoes. As the sand and dirt build up, it acts like sandpaper, slowly wearing and cutting the carpet fibers as you walk across it. A poorly maintained vacuum can greatly reduce the life expectancy of a carpet.

As regular maintenance, you should check the cord for cracks and listen for any unusual noises. If you are using a vacuum that has been repaired with duct tape and wire ties, you should probably bring it in for servicing. Repairing your vacuum is far cheaper than replacing your carpets!

Vacuum Cleaner Bags

There’s a reason they’re called DISPOSABLE. For best results change disposable bags when 1/2 to 3/4  full and never try to empty and reuse the bags. Vacuum bags are made of filter paper which trap dust particles and allow the air to pass through. Proper cleaning depends on the bag having proper air flow cheap nike air max 90 free shipping.  If your vacuum is not cleaning efficiently, it allows the sand and grit to build up in your carpets and furniture causing excessive wear.

If you keep a supply of vacuum bags on hand; you’ll be more likely to change the bag when it’s full.

Vacuum Belts

You should change your vacuum belts at least once per year. Most vacuum belts cost under $5 and can be replaced easily by you or your vacuum professional. Your vacuum’s cleaning efficiency depends on a tight belt. The drive shaft or motor pulley turns the belt which causes the brushroll to turn and provides the necessary agitation to deep clean your carpet. When the belt begins to stretch the brush roll turns more slowly new balance 850. The vacuum picks up the surface litter, but the sand and grit at the base of the carpet starts to build up, causing excessive carpet wear and increasing the allergens in the home.

It only takes a few minutes to change a vacuum belt but it can save hours of cleaning time and effort and extend the life of your carpet. Don’t let an inexpensive repair destroy your vacuum, your carpet or your health.

A Comment on Bagless Vacuums

If you don’t have allergies pets or children a bagless vacuum can be a good choice. But, if you have kids, allergies or pets, you definitely need the extra cleaning provided by a bagged vacuum. Keep in mind that the company with the best marketing department doesn’t necessarily manufacture the best vacuum.

Bagless vacuums give the illusion that they are picking up lots of dirt. They do this by spinning and aerating the dirt (much like sugar is spun into cotton candy).  The reality is I have never seen a bagless vacuum that has the cleaning power of a quality bagged vacuum.

One extremely popular brand of bagless vacuums sells pet vacuums cheap jordans 4 sale. As a vacuum repairman I can tell you the difference between their regular vacuum and their pet vacuum. Basically the only difference is the sticker that says Pet Vacuum on the front of the vacuum.

When you are looking at a vacuum, look at the number of visible parts. If you accidentally knock over your vacuum or drop it down the stairs (as many people do), there can be a lot of very expensive parts that break off. The more little parts, the more expensive the vacuum will be to repair.

The major manufacturer of bagless vacuums uses a ball system that is held together by little plastic tabs. When opening the ball to get at the motor you need to detach a dozen little plastic tabs. As the plastic ages the tabs get brittle and tend to snap off jordan 6. This turns a burnt out motor into a ball replacement which can double the cost of the repair.

The majority of my customers are concerned about allergies and every time you click the button to drop out the dust you release a wave of dust into the air to settle around your house. You can get around this by always emptying your dust trap outside, but is that realistic? In short, bagged vacuums are better for people with allergies, pets or children and provide superior cleaning.

Central Vacuums

I’ve always liked the idea of a central vac, but I can’t convince my spouse. Can you help me convince him?

There are several benefits to central vacuum systems:

  • Healthier Air – Central vacuum systems eliminate the re-circulation of dirty air inside your living area because the dust and debris is carried through the walls to an out-of-the-way receptacle.
  • Power – Central vacuums have three to five times more power than traditional vacuums. Because the power unit is not meant to be portable, it can contain a heavier and more powerful motor than found in a traditional vacuum.
  • Convenience – Central vacuums eliminate the need to carry a heavy unit from room to room or up and down the stairs. There are no cords to trip over, and your power brush can be inserted right into the wall inlet locations that you choose, instead of into pre-determined electrical outlets. They are especially convenient for vacuuming stairs. Central vacuum bags and canisters only need to be emptied an average of once every three months.
  • Home Value – Investing in any permanent appliance in your home should help increase the value when you decide to sell. Central vacuums can be installed in existing homes or in homes that are under construction.
  • Noise – Generally, central vacuum systems are quieter than traditional vacuums. Remember that the power unit is located elsewhere (garage, basement, etc.), so the noise will be greatly reduced.
  • Versatility – Central vacuums offer the same range of attachments and accessories that portable vacuums offer.
  • Cost – Central vacuums save you money by prolonging the life of your carpeting, drapes and furniture through deeper cleaning.
  • Maintenance – Central vacuum systems require little in the way of maintenance cheap air jordan xxx . Mainly, you must empty the dirt canister or replace the disposable bag. Also, you need to change the filters.
  • Convenient Accessories – You can install an automatic dustpan that lets you quickly sweep debris into a wall vent using a regular broom. This is especially convenient in the kitchen. There is a great vacuum for use in the garage, that can go right next to the workbench and can keep your garage clean and tidy. How cool is that?
